I have a wide inventory of quilt patterns and styles to choose from, amongst my own designs as well as the leading names in the modern quilting community. Each quilt can vary in size offerings and level of complexity, so there’s a lot of choice included in the process.

My process starts at developing a relationship with you during a consultation - having a quick chat about what your needs are and what your vision is. I will then do my best to create a selection of designs that I think would suit your needs as well as color palettes and potential fabrics. Once we have agreed upon a design and palette, a non-refundable deposit for materials is required. Quilts take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete once all fabrics are received. If a long arm service is requested, I can arrange for shipping to one of my preferred service providers and costs will be adjusted as needed.

My labor cost system is based on a complexity matrix, with variation in labor costs given complexity in design and size of the quilt. See below for a rough estimate. Formal estimates will be given at consultation / design stage before the deposit is made.

This size quilt measures up to 48” x 48” and is perfect for snuggling a little one. Depending on need, it can also double as a lap quilt.
Cost for custom Baby / Crib sized quilt is $150-200 plus materials and tax.
This size quilt measures up to approximately 70” x 70” and is perfect for tossing over the sofa or draping at the foot of the bed.
Cost for custom Throw sized quilt is $400-500 plus materials and tax.
This size quilt measures up to 85” x 85” and is perfect for a Twin / Full sized bed, but can vary depending on pattern. This size is possible to have quilting done in house, but is recommended to send out for long arm service.
Cost for custom Small Bed sized quilt is $600 - 700 plus materials and tax.
$100 would be deducted from labor total if opted for long arm service. Referrals can be provided as requested.
This size quilt measures up to 110” x 110” and is perfect for a Queen or King sized bed, but can vary depending on pattern. This size is not able to be quilted in house and will require long arm services.
Cost for custom Large Bed sized quilt is $900 - 1000 plus materials and tax. This does not include long arm service. Referrals can be provided for long arm services.
Sarah Jean Makes uses quilt shop quality designer fabrics for all projects to help ensure durability and longevity of use. Standard market retail costs are approximately $12-13 per yard of fabric (+shipping costs). I aim to be as upfront and clear about materials costs throughout the process.
Materials costs include: fabric for the quilt top, internal batting, fabric for the quilt back, thread.
Standard yardage estimates per size:
Baby / Crib: 5-7 yards, +batting and threads
Throw: 8-10 yards, +batting and threads
Small Bed: 10-15 yards, +batting and threads
Large Bed: 20-22 yards, +batting and threads
Custom quilted bags are available for commission. Options include the SJM original Fiona Pouch and Hella Big Tote. Zippered wristlet pouches using the PB&J Pouch pattern by Great Heron Thread Co are also available for custom order.
Custom Fiona Pouches are $40 with materials included.
Custom zipper pouches are $45 with materials included.
Custom Hella Big Totes range from $90-100 depending on panel design. Materials are included.
