SoMa Quilt Pattern Launch

Introducing the SoMa Quilt

SoMa, or South of Market, is a lively and vibrant neighborhood of San Francisco and is full of energy. The busy streets are all in a grid, intersecting into each other with some overpasses swooping in to lead to the major freeways. Each block of the area contains a variety of businesses, apartments, and lots of activity buzzing about. This quilt represents all of the energy of this neighborhood and amplifies the feel of being on the city streets. I hope you feel a little slice of the vivacity that this design aims to capture.

Energetic. Vibrant. Dynamic.

This pattern is rated at a Beginner level, is traditionally pieced, and is designed to be Fat Quarter / Fat Eighth friendly. Pattern includes three sizes: Baby, Throw, and Bed.

Cover sample uses Ruby Star Society Speckled fabrics in White Gold, Galaxy, Berry, Daisy, Clementine, Sunshine, Polar, Turquoise, Teal, and Navy.

Quilt kit bundles of all sizes can be purchased through the Sarah Jean Makes shop.

Pattern Tester Versions

Aimee (IG: @SewingScientist) used these bold and beautiful Zesty Couture prints in her quilt. The colors are gorgeous and the pattern shows the prints so perfectly. The way the energy buzzes across the quilt is so exciting! Aimee finished this quilt in record time, and promptly gifted it to the incredible and inspiring Civil Rights Activist: Opal Lee. What an honor!

Kacey (IG: @kaceycrutch) used a darling bundle of soft pinks and purples against and the effect is just adorable! I love how the feminine palette contrasts with the edgy structure of the quilt. It’s a perfect mixture of soft and hard! I love it, Kacey!

Alison (IG: @alriver809) used these incredible Fableism woven fabrics for her sample and it is absolutely breathtaking! I love how the soft tones dance across the pattern and bring a beautiful balance to the design. Alison is a fabulous maker and is so talented! It’s been such a pleasure having her on the testing team.

Mikaela (IG: @mtquiltingbee) used a gorgeous earth toned color palette and opted for a white-on-white grid and background combo, which really gave a new perspective on the pattern! I love how it leaned into a boho chic style while showing the sharp angles of the design. And how can we resist a cute pup on a quilt?! It came together so beautifully!!

Rachel (IG: @littlebitsalove) consistently brings such energy to the quilts that she makes. I love seeing how she pulls colors and fabrics together and makes designs pop! She opted for this bright and vibrant yellow background fabric and the electricity is palpable! She’s such a talented maker and glorious person. I adore everything she does!

Ursula (IG: @osita_handmade) made a perfectly purple piece! I love the shades of violet and lavender used in the blocks, highlighted by the sharp contrast of a black background and white grid. Her approach brought such energy to the design and is effortlessly beautiful. I love it!

Natalie (IG: @natalienovacek) took a chance on a bed sized version and WOW does it look incredible! I love how she played with color and print in the feature fabrics, as if the colors were buzzing across the quilt! She is such a talented maker and is opening up her own long-arming business! Be sure to give her a follow!

Jeanne (IG: @jeanne.garcia) never ceases to amaze me with her propensity for color and her incredible talent! Jeanne has tested every one of my designs and I am constantly impressed with how she makes each pattern her own. She is an awesome human and I love the magic she creates!

I am always so thrilled to watch this talented bunch of makers take full liberties with my design and bring their own perspective and energy to what they create. I love to see each of their personalities come through and transform the design concept into something that is special and uniquely their own. It is such a pleasure to work with these incredible humans and I appreciate their time and efforts! Be sure to give each of them a follow on their Instagram - you will be so amazed at what they create!
